Hechmi Louzir

Professor Hechmi Louzir is a distinguished Tunisian physician and immunologist, renowned for his contributions to infectious disease research and vaccine development. He served as the Director General of the Institut Pasteur de Tunis (IPT) from 2007 until 2023. During his tenure, he also coordinated the International Network of Institut Pasteur in the Maghreb and Iran. As a professor of medicine specializing in immunology at the Faculty of Medicine of Tunis, part of Tunis El Manar University, he has significantly advanced the understanding of the immunobiology of Leishmania and other infectious diseases. His research has been widely recognized, with over 150 publications and more than 5,600 citations. In 2021, Professor Louzir was appointed to lead Tunisia’s COVID-19 vaccination committee, reflecting his pivotal role in public health initiatives.
